John Beck Finally named Miami Dolphins starting QB

The Miami Dolphins and Head Coach Cam Cameron have finally made the switch to rookie quarterback John Beck to lead the offense this Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles. Beck is in his first season out of BYU and has yet to take a snap in a regular season NFL game. The switch comes after Cleo Lemon failed to orchestrate a win for the team, most recently, a 13-10 loss at home to the Buffalo Bills.
Cameron said in a news conference this afternoon that John Beck has improved since playing in the pre season with the Miami Dolphins. Beck showed signs of greatness with his quick release and accurate arm. He just needs to learn to read a starting NFL defense and become acclimated to the speed of the game.
Cleo Lemon will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season after leading the Dolphins to an 0-4 record while throwing 4 interceptions with just 3 touchdowns. He also rushed for 4 touchdowns, tying a franchise record, but fumbled twice.
"Cleo was asked to come in under tough circumstances and he showed a lot of resiliency in dealing with those circumstances," said John Rickert, Lemon's agent. "He is still a very capable starter in this league and will land on his feet."
The Miami Dolphins are 0-9 this season, and are out of the playoff hunt. Starting Beck now is a clear indication that the Dolphins are rebuilding towards next season. Should Beck succeed, then the Dolphins have one less position to address in the off season. Yet, should he fail, the team might consider using their (what is projected to be) top five draft pick on a quarterback.
Miami Dolphins’ Head Coach Cam Cameron has a history of grooming quarterbacks starting back in the late 90’s with Trent Green, Miami’s starter at the beginning of this season. He most recently had success with quarterbacks Drew Brees and Philip Rivers in San Diego.
